Harlaston
The Village Hall, Harlaston, Lichfield
Saturday 7th March 2009

All set up and ready to go!
We arrived early and set up ahead of the audience arriving. It was one of those tricky rooms, with the stage set in the middle and playing across the width of the hall. However, a few minor adjustments and the sound was set.

Solid Gold 60s openers
We opened the show, as usual, with two classic hit songs from the Searchers. The audience were singing along by the first chorus, making us feel very welcome.
Doug and Steve had played this venue before, but it was Mart's first visit.

The preferred Yamaha
Steve is currently playing this beautiful Yamaha APX, finished in black.
He feels that the bright tone is better suited for the tunes we are featuring in the shows we are doing with Doug.

A Classic 60s Bass
This is my vintage Epiphone Rivoli semi acoustic bass - used by many 60s bands, including The Searchers, The Animals, Gerry and The Pacemakers, The Fortunes and countless others.
I couldn't find one in the UK at the time of buying, so this one came via the Internet from California.

Doug joins us on stage
After a few tunes, Steve introduced Doug on stage. He was soon in full flow, involving members of the audience - trying to make them relax and enjoy being part of the show.

The Second Half
After a splendid supper of either fish or chicken and chips and a choice of fabulous desserts, we kicked off the second half.
As in the first half, we played a few well-known tunes before bringing Doug back on stage.

That wonderful smile!
With everyone's appetite well satisfied, we enjoyed a great second half. The audience were really appreciative and the evening had to be concluded all too soon. Villages like this are an absolute treasure and must be preserved. The sense of community is astounding - the way the people work together, giving their time and energy to continually put on events like this.
Thanks to everyone at Harlaston - for setting out the hall and clearing up afterwards, the catering, the bar and special thanks to our volunteer 'roadies'. You were all brilliant!
Thanks again to Jan, for the pics.
Here's to the next time!
